- Rajendra I
- (?-1044)In 1014, he succeeded his father, Rajaraja I, on the Chola throne and ruled for the next 30 years. Rajendra continued the drive of territorial expansion begun by his father. Southern parts of the Chaulukya kingdom, representing modern Andhra Pradesh as well as more territories in Ceylon and Kerala, were annexed. Rajendra's forces in the north penetrated up to the valley of the Ganges. His overseas campaigns resulted in the hum-bling of the Shrivijaya kingdom, from which a number of strate-gic places along the Malaccan Straits were captured.See also Mahipala.
